I want to get toned and lose weight, but you haven’t mentioned that anywhere on the page. Will your classes do that for me?
Let me start by saying that the fitness industry has done us all a real disservice by telling us that the purpose of exercise is weight loss AND it’s the most effective way to lose weight.
I believe in body autonomy and support my clients in all of their goals. I also believe in being honest and the truth is that research shows that exercise does not correlate well with weight loss.
Beyond that, depending on your genetics and nutrition, exercise may change what your body looks like, but it also may not. What I can tell you is that generally speaking, strength training regularly can help you increase muscle mass (which side note is great for bone health , injury prevention, and increasing quality of life as we get older) and for some folks more muscle = the appearance of looking a bit more “toned.”
This is all to say that exercise can play a role in changes to what your body looks like, but it depends and the answer to all of this is nuanced. For some people exercise is enough, but for most there has to be some adjustments to nutrition and that’s not what this membership site is about. However, the upside of being armed with this knowledge is that if you join the group, I’ll be available to answer all your questions and help point you towards the right people and resources if this is your goal.
In summary, I can’t promise you any sort of specific physical transformation, because that’s not how the human body works. It’s a lot more complicated than just take XYZ class. BUT I can help reduce frustration and confusion around the subject and save you some time from running your body into the ground with intense workouts that won’t give you the results you’re looking for.
